Seekport relaunching its search engine in EuropeNovember 14, 2005 Today, Seekport announces it is relaunching its search engine in five European countries. In the process, it is introducing a number of new extra features. Seekport users in Germany, the UK, Spain, France and Italy can now focus their search on news, blogs and specific reference material. Or, they can do a search for pictures and a variety of products. In addition, the site can display results from several search areas simultaneously in separate columns, with results from these different categories now identified by display icons. Seekport has also introduced a preview window that lets users take a brief look at individual search results without having to exit the results page. It is also possible by a single click to view all hits simultaneously in preview format. The Seekport News Search feature allows users to search for results in current stories. Topicality of the news items is shown by a time stamp. The Blog Search feature indexes active blogs hourly on www.seekport.co.uk and sorts them by topicality and relevance. The newly developed Reference Search makes it easier for users to obtain results from recognised information sources. Seekport defines as references certain online encyclopaedias such as Wikipedia and other lexica. All search areas will be marked either by an integrated hit list sorted by relevance, or will be shown separately by search result type. The Image Search section is edited by Seekport’s ‘national quality teams’ to ensure all image results are ‘family-friendly’. The user also has the capability of selecting pictures by size and colour. Meanwhile, Product Search lists appropriate products from a range of online shops. All search results can be displayed simultaneously in further columns, alongside the Internet hit list. A combination of Internet, product and image search can be combined and displayed in the chosen format in up to three columns. For further refinement of the desired results, Seekport also enables the user to combine the familiar (but further refined) subject search with the new area search. Joachim Kreibich, managing director of Seekport, said: "The most important thing is that we have succeeded Source: Net Imperative
