The Rank for $ales Weekly Newsletter

March 6, 2004 edition, issue: 04-0253
Current circulation: 16,173
Editor: Serge Thibodeau

Hello everybody! With the beginning of March, and with spring just around the corner, its time for a bit of change to our weekly newsletter! Many of you asked for it, and now you have it! I sincerely hope you like our new HTML format. A lot of care and special consideration went into it to make it what it is. After producing this newsletter in text version for so many years, I thought the time had come to offer it in HTML format. Your comments or suggestions on this are appreciated, as always!

Also, this week we surpassed the 16,000 subscription level. More and more mail keeps pouring in, bringing more questions, comments and ideas. The field of SEO is a very exciting and fascinating one. Not one day hardly ever goes by without some kind of news in the industry or some new development happening somewhere.

As I have said in my annual predictions I wrote on January 2nd, expect 2004 to be a year of changes. So far, only two months have passed, and already we are seeing a lot of things happening, and not just at Google. Some would say (and I would agree) that the winner of the year so far could be attributed to Yahoo, since it now has it's own search crawler (spider) and is now neck-in-neck with Google. The battle in the search war is definetely heating up a lot.

Week ending Friday, March 5, 2004
Of course the big event this week was New York's SES (Search Engine Strategies) conference. Attendance was good and people flew in from just about everywhere. The highlight of the conference was when Yahoo publicly announced their new rate increases for their paid inclusion program, which, visibly took some people by surprise. Some said (and I have to agree) that the new rates are expensive and would hurt small businesses that don't have the large advertising budgets bigger companies have.
