Lycos Europe has revamped its professional search engine Hotbot, adding a range of new features including regional boosting and shopping search.

The company said that the new version of Hotbot incorporates a "lean design and navigation concept" that has been adapted from the US site.

The start page has been cleared of all advertisements to give it a cleaner look and feel, similar to market leader Google, and users can now choose between a text only version and a colourful alternative.

Other key new features include regional boosting, which uses regional link analysis to determine the relevance of websites to a particular region chosen by the user, and improved filtering options on the advanced search page.

In addition, Hotbot now offers a new integrated shopping search provided by partner site Pangora. This enables users to search a variety of online shops, including 240 in the UK alone, for various offers and sort their search results by relevance, popularity or price.

Web search results for Hotbot Europe are provide by Inktomi, a division of Yahoo, and paid listings are provided by Overture, which is in the process of merging with Yahoo.

The new version of Hotbot is being in launched in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, but the shopping search will only be available in the UK, France and Germany.
