Microsoft Middle East and Africa today previewed its Linguistic Search Engine for the Arabic language, the most comprehensive and accurate Arabic search engine to date, which has been developed in cooperation with Coltec, a software development house based in Egypt.

AEB, due for release in the Middle East towards the end of the year, has the largest number of proper nouns of any current Arabic search engines.

'Other engines in the market present one translation or one word when you execute a search. Along with being the most comprehensive in data, Linguistic Search Engine for the Arabic language delivers a multitude of choices when a specific search is conducted,' said Karim Ramadan, General Manager, Microsoft Egypt.

'This product is the result of months of collaboration and hard work between our team and the engineers and linguistic professors at Coltec. It has also passed our quality testing in the USA and will be available commercially at the end of the year,' he added.

To represent classical Arabic words, Microsoft and Coltec included all words that appear in the Quran as well as other classical dictionaries. To make the Linguistic Search Engine for the Arabic language more user friendly and closer to the average user, the two companies also included terminologies from a huge database of documents extracted from the Internet, and from printed materials such as newspapers, magazines, books, and dictionaries.

'This is the richest electronic index that has ever been developed and the most diversified and therefore, appealing to the linguistic expert as well as the regular user,' said Ramadan.

'This is one of many achievements that Microsoft has made in its Arabization efforts and in collaboration with the regional developer community. We are proud of this product which will be available in the market towards the end of this year.'
