According to the latest Holiday eSpending Report from Goldman Sachs, Harris Interactive and Nielsen//NetRatings, the average person in the US plans to spend 23% of their holiday season budget online.

The eSpending Report notes that this percentage rises from just 19% planned spending online in 2002. The report is based on a survey of 800 Internet users in the US during the week ending 17 November. The survey determined that 67% of respondents visited at least one e-commerce Web site during the week, compared to 60% who had done the same in 2002.

So what can retailers and marketers expect from the 2003 holiday season online? According to Jupiter Research, online holiday sales should surpass $16 billion this year, up from $13.8 billion last year.
