Google extends reach of its AdSense programDecember 19, 2003 Search giant Google announced today that it has extended the reach of its AdSense contextual advertising programme by adding five new interface languages. The move will enable publishers of websites in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Japanese to sign up for AdSense, which analyses the content of web pages and serves up relevant text ads. The programme, which competes with services provided by Overture and Espotting, enables web site publishers to increase their revenue stream, providing them with a share of the click-though revenue Google receives from the advertiser when a user clicks on the ad. The move fits in with Google's European expansion strategy - the company has rapidly grown its UK staff base this year and planted new offices in Spain and the Netherlands. Google said it has already signed up several UK publishers for AdSense, and hopes the new language interfaces will further boost the service, which it picked up with its acquisition of Applied Semantics in April this year. Last month, Google further extended its reach in contextual search advertising with the acquisition of Sprinks from Primedia Inc, which runs a similar service to AdSense.
