Yahoo lets people search for video clipsDecember 16, 2004 Yahoo introduces a beta test site of its new video search engine. Yahoo Video Search will let people search for video clips from the Internet in pretty much the same way they do for Web pages and images. Major search providers like Google and Microsoft have already been preparing such a service. And in the past few months, the three companies have been at loggerheads vying for a share in the Web search space.

Google reportedly is secretly recording and indexing TV programming to make TV shows searchable online while Microsoft is developing a platform and search engine for searchable video that would allow people using the Internet or a television to find broadband or on-demand media. Others have not been too far behind. ISP America Online recently updated its multimedia engine Singingfish and incorporated video search into its main site. Alta Vista has search options for video files of less than and more than 1 minute durations and file types of Mpeg, Avi, Quicktime, Windows Media and Real. The Yahoo video search service lets users narrow their query results by file formats, such as AVI, MPEG, Quicktime, Windows Media and Real, by size and by duration. According to reports the service allows users to choose to filter results based on Internet top-level domains. For instance, only results from .com Web sites would be listed. Users can also narrow their search to a specific Web site. In addition users can choose to let Yahoo exclude content unsuitable for minors. On the official Yahoo blog, Jeremy Zawodny, a Yahoo search executive wrote that this was just a tip of the iceberg.
Leasing links to your website will boost your search engine visibility
"The costs of producing video content have been steadily decreasing in recent years. Between the adoption of broadband Internet connections, and easier to use video editing software, it's no surprise that we're seeing a lot more video content make its way on to the Internet. And what's out there today is just the tip of the iceberg," said his entry on the blog. Source: TechTree.com Read Serge Thibodeau's daily blogs on search engines at Serge Thibodeau Live.
