Google provides its standard "radio button" under the search box that allows users to specify UK-only results if they prefer. When a searcher decides to have UK-only pages shown, Google uses its same search algorithm and/or a variation of its Hilltop algo, but it filters all the listings for companies that are not UK-based. That way, you are left with "almost pure" UK-only results pages, if there is such a thing as "almost pure".

The pages that are left in the results either have a .co.uk domain, or are .com domains hosted on an IP address that is known to be in the UK. That's really all there is to it. Your website isn't penalised in Google.com, it just has a lot more competition that isn't hosted in the UK and it simply isn't doing as well as it used to before. Remember that Google, and most of the other search engines constantly adjust and modify their search algorithms all the time.

Closing Note
Remember about a month ago when I said some retailers had already started gearing up for their busy Christmas and Holiday season? Well, get used to it! I've actually seen it progressing more in the last two weeks. Is this a sign of the times? I mean Christmas preparations in June and July? Yup! It would seem so.

In the last two weeks here at Rank for $ales, we have been optimizing more retail sites than usual. Our clients say: "I have my lesson from last year and this year, we want to get ready when they come". And come they will is what I say. If some think these people are "jumping the gun", I don't agree with that, since I think it's always better to prepare and be proactive than to being complacent and... missing it again, one more time. As in any other business or industry, preparation is everything.

It's a well-known fact that most retailers 'make or break' their year during that busy period of the year. For certain, X-mas represents more than 40 to 50% of their annual sales. Those are big numbers in deed.
